QUESTION
I have bought a second-hand table with a Tip-Matik Lift installed. I cannot seem to move the elevator mechanism. Can you help?

ANSWER

Try this...
With your machine sitting on the lift platform, you can quickly and easily move it up and down by simply pushing down on your machine. You will hear a "click" as the automatic position-locking mechanism on the lift releases. Keep pushing to lower your machine or let the Tip-Matik clean air lift raise your machine to the desired position. Give a "bouncing" kind of push. There is more information about the 3 Lift levels here: Tip-Matik Lift

QUESTION
I have a sewing machine and a serger. What furniture do you suggest for quilting?

ANSWER
For 2 machines and quilting, HAKA suggests:

#500 Multi-tasking Cut, Sew (or quilt) and Serge Table
Height 34" - designed for cutting
The sewing and serging stations are situated across from each other in the centre of the table. A folding drop leaf on either side of the centre provides lots of room to the left of both machines for large projects.

#1500 Multi-tasking Side-by-Side Cut, Sew (or quilt) and Serge Table
Height 34" - designed for cutting
The sewing and serging stations are situated side-by-side. A spacious back drop leaf accommodates large projects.

If you don't need the cutting function...

#800 Side-by-Side Sew (or quilt) and Serge Cabinet
Height choice - at no extra cost: 28", 29" or 30" - not designed for cutting
TIP: HAKA can customize your #800 with a back drop leaf for extra space behind your machines.

Need storage?

Add a #300 Storage Cabinet and qualify for HAKA"s 10% Combo Discount. The #300 provides extended support for your BIG projects as well as large drawers for handy storage. The #300 is available with an optional pull-out folding ironing board replacing the top drawer.
Height choice:
Low (goes with Sewing Cabinets - 28", 29" or 30"
High for Multi-tasking Cut & Sew Tables - 34"

QUESTION

Does the cabinet height include the casters?

ANSWER
The furniture height is measured from the floor to the top of the furniture. The height includes the casters if the product comes on casters.

QUESTION

How do I determine the appropriate height for my Cutting Table?

ANSWER
You can select the Cutting Table height that is appropriate for you with HAKA’s "personalizing" cutting table height choice - at no extra cost – 34", 35" or 36" – this is truly unique in the world's sewing furniture market. If none of these heights feels comfortable, you may need a customized Cutting Table height… HAKA has customized Cutting Tables from as low as 32" to as high as 40"!

Guidelines

While there are no hard and fast rules for choosing Cutting Table height, such as basing your decision on your height alone, your personal preference and body proportions such as arm length and back waist length will likely play a part in your decision. Here are a couple of guidelines you may find helpful:

--- When you are rotary cutting, the main cutting force should come from your shoulder - if your Cutting Table is too high, this force will be diminished.

-- When standing at the long side of your Cutting Table, you should be able to lean over to the middle of the table without disturbing your fabric.

Test the height!

You can test HAKA’s standard 34", 35" and 36" Cutting Table heights using your kitchen counter top (the standard height for a kitchen counter top is 36" - but measure to be sure) and adding books to a table top to bring its surface up to 34" or 35 or 36".

The perfect fit!

You’ll find that when you have the right equipment for the task (which, most importantly, "fits" you), you’ll work more comfortably and consequently, more productively.

QUESTION

What's a Cover Plate?

ANSWER
A Cover Plate is used to cover the sewing or serging machine cutout in the tabletop when your machine is at the storage level (lowest lift position). It has a finger hole for easy removal/replacement.

HAKA provides a Cover Plate with its sewing furniture styles that don't have a top-opening leaf to close over the machine cutout.

If in doubt as to whether your HAKA sewing furniture comes with a Cover Plate, check out its list of Features.

If your HAKA sewing furniture doesn't come with a Cover Plate and you'd like one, you can order one separately.

QUESTION

I'm confused about Filler Plates. Why aren't they required for my serger?

ANSWER
A Filler Plate is a customized insert for your sewing machine. It's used to fill in the space between your machine and the cutout in the tabletop.
You'll use your Filler Plate when you're sewing at the flat bed level (middle lift position), the level used for most sewing. In this position the sewing surface of your machine will be level with the tabletop.
HAKA’s Filler Plate is made to match your sewing furniture and is custom cut to fit around the free arm of your machine (remove your machine’s tool/accessories box when using your Filler Plate).

What about the serger?

A Filler Plate is not required for the serger because, with its square shape, it can be positioned flush with the front and left edges of its machine cutout in the tabletop.

QUESTION

I recently purchased a BIG embroidery machine and am looking at buying a new sewing table for it. It is presently sitting on a table that is too high and it hurts my shoulders to sew for more than about an hour. Do you have a table/cabinet that will accommodate this machine and if so, how high is it?

ANSWER
Good news! HAKA Sewing Furniture can provide a "home" for your new, larger machine: see the #1600 XL (Sewing Cabinet) and the #2600 XL (Cut & Sew Table).

The height of your sewing cabinet plays a major role in your sewing comfort. Your shoulders hurt because you're forced to continually hold your arms up as you sew. This situation can also cause sore neck muscles, headaches and fatigue.

For your sewing comfort, HAKA's Sewing Cabinets are available in a choice of heights - at no extra cost: 28", 29" or 30".

Which height is best for you?

Sit on a standard height chair (approx. 17" high) with your hands resting on the tabletop in front of you. Keep in mind that with HAKA's Tip-Matik Lift, you will be sewing with your hands at this level. When the surface is the correct height for you, your elbows will form a right angle (90 degrees).

For more about choosing your sewing and cutting furniture heights, check out HAKA’s Height Tips.

P. S. HAKA can customize your sewing furniture height to your specifications.

What about seating height?

For proper seating height, HAKA offers a #600 Storage Bench - #600 Low for HAKA’s 28", 29" or 30" high Sewing Cabinets and #600 High for HAKA’s 34" high Cut & Sew Tables.

QUESTION

Would another type of Filler Plate also be needed when the machine is raised up to use the free arm?

ANSWER
When you raise your machine to sew at the free arm level, you can  put your machine's tool/accessory box back on, if it's needed.
